Toda Institute for Global Peace and Policy Research Toda.eNewsletter #2
9 September 2008

Dear Friends of the Toda Institute, and Members of the Toda International Advisory Council (TIAC),

We have received many replies to our first newsletter, and we wish to thank all of you for your continued support of our research activities. This month the Toda Institute has expanded the distribution of its newsletter, which has been renamed Toda.eNewsletter in order to include a larger audience.

In September we will continue finalizing the preparations for the November 2008 conference on “Facing Climate Change with a Renewed Environmental Ethic.” About 30 experts will meet to create conceptual breakthroughs through brainstorming and synergy over a period of three days. As always, it will be held without an audience to enable each participant to focus on the creation of new knowledge. We have taken up the challenge of publishing a book in 2009 to share the results of this gathering.

We have almost finished editing the 13th issue of our yearly journal Peace & Policy, and this upcoming PP 13 on Peace Journalism promises to be truly outstanding. We hope to generate even more enthusiasm for this growing field which already plays a unique role in peace building and the creation of a culture of peace.

Finally I would like to mention that our website is receiving growing attention, and we invite you to join our online forum. Once you have registered by creating your own password, you can respond to earlier postings, or create a new topic yourself. For more information on how to join the forum, visit the following page:

As mentioned in the last newsletter, some of the topics you will find in the forum are as follows:

What can the Toda Institute do in order to promote real change through research on nuclear abolition, UN reform and sustainable peace? What is the best way for the Toda Institute to enhance peace research and ensure the results have a concrete and positive impact on people, society, the world and the biosphere? How can the Toda Institute make a difference in the fields of human security, dialogue and global governance? More specific topics will enable us to discuss the long-mid-and short-term strategic plans of the Toda Institute, for instance what kind of conference we could have in 2009.

Your comments, suggestions, ideas, and recommendations are always welcome.

With best regards,

On behalf of the Toda Institute team,

Olivier Urbain
